So you think outside the box to recruit them.

Nursing staff shortage

They work with nursing schools and do whatever they can to recruit them.

Wendi Sears is the Chief Nursing Officer at Scottsdale hug and Cave Creek Hospital. She says COVID-19 has taken a huge toll and nurses are leaving. “Really over, I’d say in the last six months we’ve seen this peak of nurses where we’ve realized we have to do something,” Sears said.

So they partner with nursing schools and do whatever they can to recruit them. This includes on-site interviews, community social hour events and more every Wednesday. “It’s the best job ever. It’s the most rewarding job,” added Sears.

It’s a rewarding profession that the community needs. Abrazo’s CEO says it wasn’t just COVID-19 that caused the shortage. “We have noticed a strong increase in the demand for surgical services here. Firstly only because of the population growth and secondly because the patients had delayed care in the previous year,” said Naman Mahajan, CEO.

But no matter how full the beds are, nurses give everything. “Providing health care or not is not an option for us. We will always be here. If that means working overnight, it means we are working overnight,” Mahajan added.

Abrazo’s next recruiting event is Thursday, October 21, from 5pm to 7pm Culinary dropouts in the Scottsdale Quarter. They will offer positions for their locations in Scottsdale and Cave Creek. For more information, click here.
