The key to health is harmony. The mind, body, and spirit connection plays a key role in our overall health, and if one of these components fails it can negatively affect the others. Mind-Body Wellness Day is celebrated annually on January 3rd to raise awareness of the importance of emotions, meaning, spirituality, experiences, goals, beliefs, habits and actions and their direct connection to our health.

Our environment has an immeasurable impact on our health; From the attitudes of those with whom we surround ourselves, to our diet, to temperatures and colors. However, it is important to remember that no two people are exactly alike. While diet, exercise, and meditation can have positive effects for one person, it may not work for another. As an individual, knowing what your mind, body, and spirit need to be in order to maintain your well-being for your own benefit is important.

There are resources available to help you with mind and body health locally. Trillium Health is responsible for major mental illness, intellectual and developmental disorders, drug use, and traumatic brain injuries in eastern North Carolina. On June 28, 2021, the Bladen County Board of County Commissioners voted to withdraw from Eastpointe and realign themselves with Trillium. On June 30, 2021, the Trillium Board of Directors approved the realignment of Bladen County with Trillium. NC DHHS has given Bladen an effective date of February 1, 2022 to join the Trillium catchment area. Please visit the Bladen County’s Realignment page for more information.

Taking care of your physical body is paramount. To help take care of your body, speak to your doctor about your needs. DreamWorks, a gym and fitness center in Elizabethtown, offers many services to the community.   1. Find your favorite mindfulness exercise.
    Practicing mindfulness can be done in so many different ways! The key is to find a technique that suits your unique temperament and elemental type. Whether meditation or yoga, friendliness and helpfulness, mindful eating or the practice of daily self-care and appreciation – mind-body wellness plays a major role in improving the quality of life.

  2. Sleep well.
    Good sleep is the basis for reducing stress and keeping the body healthy. Try turning off your devices at least an hour before bed before going to bed. Give your brain and body time to decompress, away from external distractions and stressors. Try to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep each night.

  3. Establish daily routines that support strong inner wealth.
    Routines create habits, and positive routines can rewire your brain. The mind longs for constancy! Try adding some positive self-affirmations to your daily routine. Take some time every day just for yourself and do something you love. This little act of self-care can move mountains in terms of confidence building, self-acceptance, and general well-being.
