Did Dan Stevens Actually Sing In Magnificence And The Beast?

Though not known as a singer, Stevens had some screen singing experience prior to Beauty and the Beast. He even played a moving duet with Mary (Michelle Dockery) in a season two episode of Downton Abbey. But even he had to admit that “Evermore” was a completely different challenge that required serious preparation.

In a 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed he was looking for a professional to prepare his vocal cords for his big number. “I worked pretty closely with a brilliant woman from the Royal Academy of Music, [singing coach] Ann-Marie Speed, who is just fantastic, “he said.” As with a lot of things I’ve done over the years, [it’s about] acquire new skills or challenge myself to do something I’ve never done before – in this case, challenge myself to do different things that I’ve never done before. But it’s a lot of fun. It’s definitely interesting! “

Stevens went on to say that he had so much fun challenging himself to sing “Evermore” in the film that he wouldn’t mind doing another vocal role in the future. In fact, he almost broke out with his singing styles again in 2020, but the pandemic got in his way.
