Inspiring Shirley physique builder wants your votes for Muscle & Health contest

A Shirley father and veteran of the US Air Force is a finalist in “Mr. Health & Fitness ”competition.

But time is running out of chances.

James “Jimmy” Dorsa, 43, has until Thursday, July 8th, 10:00 pm to advance to the next round of voting for the competition. Right now he’s in ninth place in his group and must climb four places to qualify for the grand prize of $ 20,000 and a double-page spread in an upcoming issue of the popular fitness magazine.

Dorsa, who has four boys, is a competitor with type 1 diabetes and a transplant survivor who lived on a feeding tube for six months. He told Muscle & Fitness that he was stripped of the ability to exercise for seven years while battling chronic pancreatitis and undergoing life-saving surgery.

“I lived on a feeding tube for 6 months, had to walk with cane for a year and couldn’t exercise,” he said on his bio page on Muscle & Fitness. “I was depressed and confident, so I made a promise to myself that I would get my health back and never look back … I now try to motivate and inspire others not to give up and to show them that it is possible.”

If he wins the grand prize, he says he’ll put the money into his kids’ college education and a “much overdue” family vacation.
