New nervousness middle in Seattle centered on bridging the hole in well being care system

The Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center treats people of all genders and ages, from adults to teenagers and children.

SEATTLE – The mental health crisis during the pandemic has weighed on the health system as more people need treatment.

The Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center at the Swedish Medical Center – First Hill is slated to open in just two weeks to fill a void in the mental health system.

“The hope is that the more of these intermediate levels of care – kind of intense – but the intermediate levels of care we can offer, the less pressure there is on the system as a whole,” said Robert Mcferren, clinical director at Pathlight Mood & Fear center.

The Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center treats people of all genders and ages, from adults to teenagers and children.

In early 2021, Governor Jay Inslee declared Washington a state of emergency over the mental health crisis of young people.

The Swedish Medical Center reported that the number of inpatient admissions related to mental health increased from 6% in 2019 to nearly 25% in the first few months of 2021.

Pathlight addresses mental health problems using a transdiagnostic model that caters to all ages.

“You will receive individual therapy. Family therapy. You will receive medical care from a licensed psychiatrist as well as several groups per day. So up to four competence groups per day in which they have the skills to deal better with their emotions and to react to situations in such a way that they get better results, ”explained Mcferren.

The center has 36 beds, 18 for adults and 18 for children.

But how can just 36 beds help in the great mental crisis Washington is facing?

Mcferren says time and individual attention.

“Yes, that’s 36 people at the same time. So if we really think about training people for about four weeks, four to six in total, we can treat hundreds of people every year, ”he explained. With only 36 beds, we can have our therapists handle really smaller case numbers and our psychiatrist can also handle really smaller cases so that we can concentrate on their individual care and really give them what they need. “

The center will admit patients from November 15, 2021.
