Vegan cosmetics: Magnificence with compassion | Vogue Developments

While sustainability has been the buzzword in the beauty and fashion industries for some time, another phenomenon that has grown in importance is cruelty-free cosmetics. When it comes to beauty products that have not been tested on animals or contain no animal ingredients, curiosity about this range of cosmetics is growing. And it has put vegan beauty products in the spotlight.

Vegan cosmetic products use raw materials of botanical, vegetable and mineral origin. “In recent years there has been an increase in awareness of vegan, natural and organic products, which has led to an increased demand for products that offer clean beauty,” said Rupali Sharma, founder of the skin care brand Aegte Organics.

Muskaan Mundhra, director of cosmetics brand Serein, admits that consumer preference has shifted to environmentally friendly products since the pandemic. “People are becoming more cautious and aware of labels that are taking a more open, sustainable and environmentally friendly approach,” she says.

Using completely vegan products can also reduce the chance of skin problems such as rashes, allergies, skin infections, and other skin diseases. “We believe that vegan products are very safe even for sensitive skin as they are free from allergic ingredients such as milk, eggs, etc.,” says Sharma.

No wonder brands are trying to use herbal products to make vegan cosmetics. “All of the ingredients we use are vegan and dermatologically tested. Rose geranium, lavender, grapefruit and berries give the made-to-measure vegan lipstick a wonderful, subtle touch, ”says Bhakti Bhanushali, co-founder of Karibo Cosmetics.

When it comes to storing vegan products, it’s more or less similar to storing regular products. “All cosmetic products should be stored protected from moisture, usually in a defined cool or dry place,” recommends Mundhra.

“Organic does not mean animal-free”

People often confuse organic, vegan, and cruelty-free as the same concept, but their essence is very different from each other.

“Vegan cosmetics do not contain any animal ingredients,” says Mundhra and adds: “Organic cosmetics usually consist of extracts from nature such as rose petals, honey, beeswax and organic oils. However, this does not necessarily mean that they do not contain any animal ingredients. “
